Ancient medieval building transformed in a fortification under thevSiena period and Spanish period. Still a magnificent building, it dominates the historical centre of Porto Ercole with high castellated embattled walls.
With its 2,5 hectares containing defensive elements and other buildings as barraks, depots, cisterns, a chapel, cells and warehouses, it was the biggest and most efficient fort of the entire defensive system of the Argentario. Today it is possible to visit it by prior municipality authorisation.
