The tower soaring above this cove was once called Scaciadiavoli. This was the byname given to Aydin Rais delle Smirne who was one of the marauding pirates on this stretch of coast. Later on the tower and consequently the underlying cove changed their name, it being forever bound to piratical events, to Cacciarella and this name still remains.
To better support such theory there is a cave on this stretch of coast known as the "Turk's Cave" owing to a turk's body having been found inside it, whose belt was full of golden coins. Another legend is also bound to this name according to which a small fishers' boat found shelter from the Turks inside it.
