Before coming to the southernmost point named La Ciana the coast opens into a small cove called Purgatorio. The origin of the name is not clear although the promontory dominating the point is named Bocca d'Inferno (Hell's Mouth) and together with the beach let the mind wander to sites of Dante's circles of hell.
