Once the Bove or Bovo, a local term to define the monk seal, haunted this site of the promontory coast. The last official sighting took place in 1965 between Cala del Bove and the Argentarola boulder although there are evidences that a few solitary specimen were sighted up to 1972.
Anyway it is a stated fact that this kind of mammal has left the coast leaving only its name to the cove.
